Polymer Systems exhibited at: MedTech, NEC 5 - 16th May 2019.

As a key market for PST it’s always good to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and developments and spread the word of medical grade silicones. We were also joined by Synergy, demonstrating the Speedmixer technology for mixing and degassing silicones and other materials. As always it was a great opportunity to hear about exciting new developments, meet new and old contacts. The introducing stage was well attended for a talk on the use of Silicones in Medical Devices. This covered an introduction to the various forms and functions of Silicones for the novice and then some of the new exciting developments for the future. It was good to see that it stimulated some fruitful conversations afterwards on the stand and for some drinks afterwards at the after show reception. Of particular interest were the NuSIl range of lubricating silicones, next steps into 3D printing/additive manufacture and the regulatory support that can be provided to meet ISO 10993.

We look forward to seeing you all this year, April 1st & 2nd 2020 Stand Number: D87, Hall 1

NUSIL ANNOUNCES THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE SILICONES FOR HEALTHCARE APPLICATIONS

Thermally Conductive Silicones For Healthcare ApplicationsPST High Wycombe 21st January, 2010
NuSil Technology LLC, the global leader in silicone materials for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, introduces two thermally conductive healthcare silicone elastomers. These elastomers can be used as a cure-in-place adhesive or potting compound between electrical/electric components and heat sinks as part of a thermal management regime to keep medical devices operating at their optimal levels.

MED-2980 and MED-2955 are able to wet out on a variety of substrates to ensure excellent contact between uneven surfaces. The low modulus characteristic of these elastomers ensures that, during operational thermal cycling, the bond line will not warp or break sensitive electronic components.

Lubricious Silicone Coatings and LubricantsBenefits of Siliconization
Silicones are known for their feel-enhancing effects and lubricity. Silicones provide effective lubrication solutions for many medical device applications by:

  • Spontaneously spreading out in thin films
  • Reducing the coefficient of friction, insertion force, and machine-ability
  • Minimizing break-loose and extrusion forces
  • Alleviating any discomfort a patient may experience during insertion and removal of a device

Controlled Volatility RTV Silicone Foam (CV-2391)PST Announce
Silicone Coating with Low Coefficient of Friction
R-2182 is a two-part, low coefficient of friction silicone coating dispersed in xylene.

Silicone elastomers inherently have a high degree of surface tack and a tendency for blocking (sticking to themselves by virtue of chemical affinity). These inherent features may be problematic for applications requiring a molded or extruded silicone part to move or slide with minimal friction. This can be specially problematic in cases where the silicone is likely to fold and unfold or spool together during storage.

Low Coefficient of Friction Silicone Coating (MED-6670)PST Announce
Low Coefficient of Friction Silicone Coating (MED-6670)
The surface of cured silicones is often characterized by a high coefficient of friction, some degree of tackiness and a tendency for blocking (sticking to themselves by virtue of chemical affinity). All of these inherent features may be problematic for applications requiring a molded or extruded silicone part to move or slide with minimal friction.

MED-6670 is a two-part, low coefficient of friction silicone coating dispersed in xylene specifically designed to coat molded or extruded silicone parts and overcome these obstacles.
